Darryl   Pottorf

Born in Ohio in 1952, Pottorf actually considers Captiva Island in Florida his home where he lives and works since the 80s. The meeting with Robert Rauschenberg in Italy was decisive for his further development. Pottorf started to work in the studio of Rauschenberg in 1980 and became his most important co-worker for the next 20 years. Pottorf himself created large abstract compositions in black on metal boards. Little by little he includes color and creates collages. He uses photographs and paints over them and creates sculptural objects. Since the mid 90s works in teamwork with Rauschenberg are being created. One of the most significant series by Rauschenberg and Pottorf are called 'Quattro Mani'. Pottorf rises out of Rauschenberg's shadow and today Pottorf is being represented in big museums. He has established a great reputation in the American art scene.
